Patrice: The Movie is a documentary rom-com about the next phase of marriage equality: disability. Patrice and Garry, a disabled couple in their 50s, want to marry but risk losing the government benefits they need to survive if they do — yet despite the scrutiny, they decide to plan a commitment ceremony. The film interweaves vérité scenes with recreated moments from Patrice’s past life, reimagined as a school play with a cast of children and Patrice herself as the only adult.
